Abstract placeholder. Bitcoin ATMs provide cash-based, low-scrutiny access to cryptocurrency. Using the staggered diffusion of Bitcoin ATMs across the United States together with on-chain forensic data, this paper studies who uses anonymous payment rails and their real effects on local communities.
